About

The Tualatin Valley Gem Club is a non profit organization, created for sharing educational information with a focus on the natural earth sciences, lapidary and jewelry making skills. We offer educational resources, field trips, meeting programs, and newsletters that provide the opportunity to grow your knowledge in this area. Not only are we rockhounds, but we are lapidaries, wire wrappers, faceters, silversmiths, artists, fossil hunters and many other things.

Our members offer a wide range of skills and expertise and we come together to share that knowledge with each other and with you. Come to meet with us and bring your rocks, minerals, fossils, handmade items and experiences to share with us on the show and tell table. If you have a question about what you brought, our members might be able to assist you with your question.

If you decide to become a member you can also receive email notification of rock and mineral sales or visit the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals. We also offer hands on opportunities to learn or improve certain aspects of the jewelry making process.

If you are interested in learning about the natural world around you and want more like-minded people in your circle of friends, consider yourself invited to come to a meeting or contact us for more information.

Meetings are held at the Forest Grove Senior Center (map), 2037 Douglas St, Forest Grove Oregon on the second Thursday of the month (main hall) at 7:30 and fourth Thursday of the month at 7 P.M. (currently in the back room) There is no meeting in December. Visitors are always welcome!

General Club Objectives

To promote popular interest and education in the various earth sciences, and in particular the subjects of Geology, Mineralogy, Paleontology, and Lapidary as well as other related subjects, and to sponsor and provide means of coordinating the work and efforts of all persons interested therein.

History of the Tualatin Valley Gem Club

The Tualatin Valley Gem Club, a non-profit, was founded in 1957 by our charter members from the Tualatin Valley area. Some of our charter members, Richard and Helen Rice included, were instrumental in the establishment of the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals and, in the beginning, volunteered their time at the museum.
