Non profit Annual gem and mineral show preparations for March 2020

Tualatin Valley Gem Club, wishes everyone a very healthy, safe and happy holidays.

When we come back for our first meeting in the new year it will also be time to start thinking of our annual show. This show helps our non profit club to pay for things such as meeting space, programs and more. Last year, people enjoyed the displays, vendors and kids corner. It’s not too early to start thinking about our new displays and games for kids corner.

Below is our new flyer for the show and please contact me through the website if you would like some additional paper flyers to post at places, or if you would like a jpeg file of the flyer, as this is for official press release.

November and December Meetings

We are coming close to the end of the year, as fall is here and winter will come. It has been a good one making new friends and meeting new faces over this year. We worked at the Portland Regional Gem and Mineral Show and it was heart warming to see the enthusiasm in the people that came through who shared our love for the earth’s beauty.

The Meeting for November 14th will include a talk on the varieties of Quartz given by Julian Grey Curator of the Rice North West Museum of Rocks and Minerals. How many varieties can you think of? I bet that subject is way broader than you might think. Can anyone recognize the name of quartz in this picture is below? (Hint, think of New York).

Also note that there will be elections of new Board members and lots of news to share.

businessh The November 28th meeting of course is Thanksgiving and we can count in our thanks all the things that the rocks and minerals have brought us, but there will be no meeting.

In the Month of December we will have our annual holiday dinner with good food, fun surprises and sharing. That Holiday dinner will be at the Forest Grove Senior Center set up will be at 12 noon, dinner will be at 3pm don’t forget to sign up and bring a side dish. Also at this dinner will be installation of New Officers for next year.

Gem Show 2019 Success

We would like to thank all who made this show a wonderful success! This includes our volunteers, advertising supporters, friendly dealers, Dick Pugh from the Cascade Meteorite Laboratory and of course our visitors.

We hope that the community had a good time, found some wonderful treasures and had a chance to learn or discover something new about our amazing world of gems, rocks, minerals, meteorites and fossils. Our volunteers were very dedicated and hard working. We had a little advertising help from Oregonlive, Katu and Forest Grove News Times. All the 3 day Raffle prize winners have been contacted. Each of our displays had something unique to show and I am sure the votes where broad so thank you to all that voted on the displays as well.
